Organized for the 14th time this year by the Istanbul Carpet Exporters’ Association (İHİB), Türkiye’s oldest carpet design competition and the “Stars of Carpet Export” Award Ceremony took place on October 6, 2021, at the Renaissance Polat Hotel Istanbul. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Trade Mr. Rıza Tuna Turagay, Türkiye Exporters Assembly (TİM) President İsmail Gülle, representatives from Exporters’ Associations, foundations, associations, and chambers, along with key sector representatives. In his speech, İHİB Chairman Uğur Uysal emphasized the importance of design and designers for producing value-added products and reiterated his call to YÖK for the continuation of talent exams for admission to Fine Arts Faculties.
The awards for the Carpet Design Competition, organized annually by İHİB for 14 years and receiving nearly 100 applications this year, were presented during a visual celebration of traditional Turkish carpet art. Among the three award-winning participants supported by the Ministry of Trade, Eylem Barin, who won first place, received her award from Deputy Minister Rıza Tuna Turagay and TİM President İsmail Gülle. Şulegül Bektaş, who won the second place, received her award from İHİB Chairman Uğur Uysal, while third-place winner Salih Girgiç was awarded by İHİB Vice Chairman Ahmet Hayri Diler.
